2019.07.04

The aim of the several days trainings is to increase the knowledge of experts in the field of architecture, spatial planning, investment attraction on the urban transformation of brownfields. The latest urban transformation processes, different stakeholder management and public investment valuation models, etc. were introduced. The trainings were led by successful architects Donatas Baltrušaitis and Živilė Šimkutė who work abroad and in Lithuania.
André Baldišiūtė, one of the founders of "DO Architects" office, presented "Ogmios" town project being developed for over 15 years. It is one of the most beautiful examples of regeneration in Vilnius, where 12 ha of the former Soviet military town has been rearranged by private means. Now the area has become an attractive leisure and shopping place. A lot of attention was paid not only to buildings, but also to quality public space, greenery, small architecture. In 2018, the project was awarded by the Ministry of Environment as the best example of urban design.
“We had a great opportunity to learn innovative pioneering role-playing game created by Milena Ivkovich, a Dutch architect who came to Panevezys. The model is well recognized in the world as an inclusive and participatory form of urban planning and, if well-designed, can be an essential tool for articulating public and private interests, even in conflict resolution. Ms. Ivkovich has blended a broad perspective on urban design, technology and users of urban spaces as a result of her multicultural working experience from the Netherlands and the Balkans to Africa, China and Japan. In Panevezys, she helped to analyze the territory of the former aviation base in Skaistakalnis Park", says Lina Blažytė, Project Manager of Panevėžys City Municipality.
With the project "Transformation from Brownfields to Well-Groomed", the municipality has planned to create and maintain green areas, paths, small architecture elements, green spaces and lighting, development of the city 3D layout and more. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2020. In early April, Panevezys received almost 170 thousand Euros of EU funding.
One more meeting with the community of companies operating in the former aviation base in Skaistakalnis Park is scheduled for August.
