The Meeting of the Participants of International Project takes place in Panevėžys
“Welcome to Panevėžys – a green, friendly, transforming and rich in culture city. I am delighted to see the delegations here from Gradoli, Jevišovice, Castiglione in Teverina, Vinnytsia and Jablonna. Today, we have a unique opportunity to discuss, share best practices and explore future cooperation possibilities together. I am confident that this international meeting will serve as an excellent platform for both important discussions and practical collaboration. I wish you productive discussions and new ideas. Best of luck and enjoy your time in Panevėžys!” – Panevėžys City Mayor Rytis Račkauskas addressed the conference participants with these welcoming words.
During the conference held at the Creativity Centre, the participants of the international project shared insights on integrating gender equality into cultural initiatives and the protection of cultural heritage. The discussions highlighted key experiences related to women’s involvement in decision-making, and the participants exchanged examples of best practices from their countries.
Following the conference, there will be a traditional cultural heritage event, with special attention to Italy’s delegation presenting the ancient tradition of PURGATORIO (Ash Wednesday) – a collection of donations for families in need. This unique custom, preserved for 500 years, will be showcased in Panevėžys. The donations collected during the event will be directed to support women and children in the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia, a twin city of Panevėžys that has been affected by the war.
The international project “Inspiring Gender Equality in the Preservation of Cultural Values and Heritage” is being implemented from 2024 to 2025, funded by the European Union’s Citizens, Equality, Rights, and Values program. The main goal of the project is to enhance intercultural understanding, strengthen the sense of solidarity among citizens, and promote EU integration through the exchange of experiences, best practices, knowledge, and by fostering dialogue among various communities. A key focus of the project is on the role of women in making significant decisions.
By participating in such projects, Panevėžys contributes to addressing important civic issues and strengthens its international image as a dynamic and open city.
