“It is a great pleasure to welcome the guests in Panevėžys on the occasion of the 517th City Birthday. Cooperation between our states, cities and people have deep traditions and evoke only pleasant emotions. I am glad that together we not only celebrate, but also share various experiences in business, science, sports and culture areas. I believe that our cooperation will be interesting and mutually beneficial in the future as well, ”said Rytis Račkauskas, the Mayor of Panevėžys.

Cooperation with at that time Georgia began in 2007 with the assistance of the Georgian Ambassador to Lithuania and the Lithuanian Embassy in Georgia. The decision to start contacts with Rustavi was taken by Panevėžys City Council. In  2015, a Letter of Cooperation Intent between the two cities was signed. In 2016, the Cooperation Agreement between Panevėžys and Rustavi was approved. The two cities cooperate in the fields of tourism, culture, education, sports, environment, economic relations and business development, public administration and self-government.

The guests were introduced to the already implemented and currently being implemented infrastructural projects in Panevėžys, the areas of culture and tourism were discussed.
