Today the Mayor of Panevėžys will sign Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Panevėžys and Toyohashi Cities. It is the 15th Partnership Agreement and the first one with a foreign partner in Asia. 

"Our contacts with Toyohashi City started a year ago when in July we met the official delegation from Toyohashi and signed the first Letter of Cooperation Intent. The second Letter of Intent was signed in October when Panevėžys City official delegation had visited Toyohashi. I am pleased about the existing cooperation contacts and have no doubt that the signing of agreement will unlock the doors for the cooperation of culture, sports, business and other communities. It will be of mutual benefit and interest to the inhabitants of Toyohashi and Panevėžys",- said the Mayor R. Račkauskas. 

The spheres of culture, education, sports, environment protection and tourism are foreseen in the Cooperation and Partnership Agreement. Already in October, the delegation of Toyohashi pupils will pay a visit to Panevėžys. 

Toyohashi is a Japanese city located south of Honshu island, southeast of Nagoya by the Pasific Ocean. Around 372 500 of residents live there. It is a sea port (export of cars).  Machinery, wood, metal processing, the industry of chemistry, textile (silk) and food processing is developed in the city.
