International Electric Marathon

Organisational matters connected with the marathon organised on June1-10 were discussed. International Electric Marathon " Tallinn-Monte Carlo 2012" - a continuation of automobile Star Race held in Tallinn in 1930. The event which took place 8 years in a run was broken when the contry had been occupied by the Soviet Union. The tradition was restored only in 2011. The start of the rally was given by Prince Albert IIwho was in an offical visit to Tallinn. 14 electric carswere at the starting line. 4 cars reached the destination in Monte Carlo after a journey of around 3, 500 km.
It is planned that this year the electric marathon will be implemented in 3 stages: Baltic(Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland), mountain (Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria) and Adriatic(Italy and Monaco). In Lithuania the stops are foreseen in Panevėžys and Kaunas.
6 vehicles plan to compete in races. Though, in separate stages there will be more participants. Moreover, the organisers in all cities will invite the escort of innovative, ecological means of transport. In Tallinn , the start of the race will be given by the Princess Charlene of Monaco and the Mayor of Tallinn Mr. Edgar Savisaar. The finish of the race will be flagged by H. S. H. Prince Albert II.
" The project can be called smart racing- we would like them to make new technologies in alternative car market more popular. We want the event to encourage discussions on this topic. At the same time we wish to show that innovations are simple- even an old vehicle can be rebirthed for a new life. This will be demonstrated by the participants of the marathon- not only the new TESLA ROADSTER but also POBEDA made in 1958",- said J. Tamm.
