Panevėžys gets involved into the International URBACT Project SPACE4PEOPLE

Panevėžys City Council has approved the decision to take part in international project SPACE4PEOPLE together with the cities of Bielefeld (Germany), Valga (Estonia), Serres (Greece), Turku (Finland), Saint Germaine en Laye (France), Arad (Romania), Badalona and Guia de Isora (Spain). The joint application form has been submitted to URBACT Programme for finance procedures.
The aim of the project is to increase the attractiveness of public spaces by focusing on three main aspects: 1) pedestrians and their spaces 2) parking problems 3) intermodal and public transport.
After receiving the funding, an application for Phase II would be prepared, partner meetings will take place, and a working group will be set up to prepare a follow-up action plan. Assistance will be provided by a selected expert. In Phase II, the individual problems of the partners would be identified, common solutions would be sought and pilot activities would be envisaged.
The URBACT program supports the sustainable integrated development of European cities, provides funding for networking and exchanges of experience. It plays a key role in strengthening urban links, exchanging best practices and finding innovative solutions.
