" In recent years energy problems are widely discussed in Lithuania and in the City of Panevėžys. Especially the economical side is touched. Though, I think that ecological and enviromental aspects are also very important and in foreseeing the future of our planet, maybe, even more essential.  If we look even more deeper, in implementing the measures of effective energy and renewable energy resources, we try to reach both aims- economical and ecological. I am really glad that such high-level conferences are being held in this city. Here we shall listen to honourable speakers from Denmark, Latvia and Lithuania about the planning and finance of municipal energy economy, learn about the problems of heating economy and the ways of solutions. The Pact of the Covenant of Mayors which was signed in 2009 is a very responsible commitment to follow more experienced EU countries in order to achieve common goals in environment and energy sectors. I would like to stress that the Municipality of Panevėžys City has a very strong and experienced Ecology Department . For many times the name of Panevėžys was mentioned in different international projects and contests. I would like to mention that Panevėžys is almost the first city in Eastern Europe which purchased extremely ecological, hybrid city buses. Our city is the leader of renovation of Lithuanian multi-flat family houses",- said the Mayor of Panevėžys Vitalijus Satkevičius during the welcome word.

"Energy is one of the most problematic sectors of economy in Lithuania. We hope that we can share our ideas, propose something to the national government how to improve the matters of heating economy, modernise multi-flat family houses",- said the Energy Expert of Lithuanian National Consumers' Federation Rimantas Zabarauskas.
