The World Folklore Oscar is awarded to the Choreographer of Panevėžys City Zita Rimkuvienė

The International Union of Folklore Associations presents this award for the cherishing and promotion of folk dances.The World Folklore Oscar will be handed over during the ceremony which is held in Gimarainse City in Portugal, the European Capital of Culture 2012.
Z. Rimkuvienė promoted Lithuanian folk dances for 35 years. Over 80 international and national festival were visited, a lot of them were organised. The dancers managed by the choreographer Z. Rimkuvienė are warmly welcomed at the World Lithuanian Folk Song Festivals in USA. Z. Rimkuvienė has brought a great input in organising Lithuanian Song Festivals.
According to Z. Rimkuvienė the engine of 35 years of creative activities is children. " Till children dance folk dances, till they are interested in folklore- I have a great wish to work. Though my family members live in USA, I wish to stay here. I see that only being here I can propose something to the city, country and children".
This year the World Folklore Oscar will be awarded to 13 people from 10 countries.
Z. Rimkuvienė will be the third Lithuanian who brought this honourable award. In 2009 it was given to the Choreographer Birutė Akelaitienė, in 2011- to the singer Veronika Povilionienė.
International Un of Folklore Associations is the organisation which cherishes folklore in the world. It is also the organiser of various festivals since 1953 and has 42 member-countries.
