The Exhibition from the Collection of Marko Rothko Art Centre has been opened

2022.11.04

The exhibition "Walls: from Minimalism to Detail" from the collection of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre was opened in Panevėžys City Municipality.

"I congratulate everyone today on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition brought by our lovely friends, from the Marko Rothko Centre. I congratulate guests from Latvia visiting Panevėžys. I hope your stay will leave the best memories. Interesting, exceptional authors and the work inspired by Marko Rothko talent unites them all - this is how we can describe today's exhibition and enjoy the opportunity given to Panevėžys. I would like to thank the authors and organizers. I have no doubt that very soon, when Stasys Eidrigevičius Arts Centre opens its doors, such traditional meetings and events will become even more frequent. I am really looking forward for it. Thank you and have a nice event", said Rytis Račkauskas, the Mayor of Panevėžys in his welcoming speech.

All exhibits have one essential common feature: Mark Rothko name and his unique creative style. All artists have a strong connection with the Daugavpils Marko Rothko Art Centre as the participants in Marko Rothko international painting symposium program. Each in their own way, but all of them have been inspired by the works of the great artist. Some paintings echo his earlier dimensional experiments. Others point to the unmistakable colour field typical to Marko Rothko classic period, where colour and structure are a unity: forms are born only from colour and their transparency creates an intricate layered depth that complements the vertical architecture of the impressive composition.

The authors of the works: Ingrida Ivane, Ieva Rupenheite, Ludmila Procenko, Maris Upzarsas (Latvia), Nika Grzymska (Poland), Petra Heitkoter (Germany), Lars Strand, Erling Stuart Rohde (Norway), Chongyin Yuan (Chongyin Yuan) (China), Dustyn Bork (USA).

The exhibition in the municipality of Panevėžys City will be displayed until December 30.
