Panevėžys City Municipality has become the Official Member Jewish Heritage Cultural Route Association

Today, Panevėžys City Council approved the decision and Panevėžys officially became a member of the Jewish Heritage Cultural Route Association.
"Jewish history is inseparable from Lithuania and, of course, from the history of our city. In Panevėžys, the Jewish community played an important role in the life of the city. They were active social and political actors. Panevėžys is rich in Jewish cultural heritage objects, thus, participation in the European Jewish Heritage Cultural Route is really meaningful for our city," said Rytis Račkauskas, the Mayor of Panevėžys.
The aim of the Jewish Cultural Heritage Route Association, established in 2015, is to preserve and actualise the rich cultural heritage of Lithuanian Jews located in the municipal territories. This idea will be fulfilled by making the routes of the Jewish Cultural Heritage both at the local and national level, by promoting the interest of local residents in Jewish culture, traditions and heritage, by increasing the number of events related to Jewish history visitation and awareness of objects, to contribute to the dissemination of the unique historical, cultural and intellectual heritage of Litvaks on local and international level.
The Jewish Cultural Heritage Route Association currently has 13 members and is a member of the European Jewish Heritage Route. The majority of the members are municipalities located in various regions.
