The Visit of the Representatives of the Order of Malta

The possibilities of the Municipality in assisting the activities of the Order of Malta were discussed.
The guests from Germany told about the charity activities of the Order of Malta and declared that the 13th charity mission has taken place to Panevėžys. Medical equipment and tools for the disabled people were brought.
" We know you as the man who keeps his word and who cherishes Christian values. We expand the activities of the Support Services of the Order of Malta (MOPT) in Panevėžys and we hope that the Diocese will provide us with the premises of the former G. Petkevičaitė-Bitė library in Respublikos street. We should repair them and adopt to our needs. We shall take care of constructional material and we kindly ask you to find people who could help in doing repair works. Later, if there is a possibility, we could ask you to assist in heating subsidies",- applied O. Riesselmann to the Mayor.
"From the bottom of our hearts we agree with your ideas. Though, we propose you a more rational way to use the premises of city schools which are becoming more and more empty. A Working Group to measure all the possibilities will be established. We could find people for repair works",- proposed the Mayor.
Municipal Letters of Thanks were handed over to O. Riesselmann and H. Tegenkamp by the Mayor V. Satkevičius for the activities of the Order in improving the life of people in need.
At present, 43 volunteers are working at MOPT in Panevėžys. They take care of 36 elderly people, provide hot soup for 30 people in need.
