A Very Modern Building of an Egg Shape will appear in Panevėžys
Pieces of art created during International Ceramic Symposiums organised by the Art Gallery will be exhibited there.
The arcitect Valdas Klimavičius proposed the idea of a modern egg shape building put into a glass box: "An egg is the very first ceramic in the world, the symbol of birth of ceramics. In such a way the building itself becomes a reference to the things to be exhibited there".
" The project proposed by V. Klimavičius is very original. Here not only the collection will be presented but also the building will be similar to a sculpture. So, I believe in the possibility of double attraction. There are a number of examples in the world when due to the original status of buildings cities become famous. Let us say, Bilbao City in Spain with Gugenheim Museum. Maybe it will happen with Panevėžys ?",- says the Director of Art Gallery Jolanta Lebednykienė.
On the ground glass floor of the pavilion an exposition which will be changed is planned to be exhibited. A natural sun light will provide unique charm. The best works chosen by experts will be demonstrated on the first floor of 500 sq.m. in a ferroconcrete egg. An artificial light will be used here.
The support of EU structural funds iof 1 , 1 million Litas is provided to the Municipality for the design and construction works. Preliminary date of project implementation is January of 2014.
