Baltic Esperanto Days in Panevėžys

"These Baltic Esperanto Days will serve to expand cultural co-operation between the Baltic countries, for Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia integrating into a common European cultural space, fostering direct contacts between residents of the region," said Povilas Jegorov, Chairman of the Board of the Lithuanian Esperanto Union.
The Baltic Esperanto Days have been held every year since 1959 in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.Over the years, the event has grown into a pan-European and even Esperanto festival.
The program of the Esperanto Days is intense, intellectual, diverse and rich.There will be a traditional summer university, where renowned Esperanto scholars from different countries will give lectures.
The 36th Session of the International San Marino Academy of Sciences will be held in Panevezys for the first time. Announcements of this session are published in a separate publication. There will be several thematic lectures. Professor of Šiauliai University Aloyzas Gudavičius will teach a series of lectures on Lithuanian language, literature, culture, history. Walter Želazny, a professor at the University of Bialystok, will talk about different religions around the world in two lectures, introducing the world-wide Esperanto movement to the eyes of a sociologist.
Professor Ilona Koutny of Poznań University will give lectures on "Esperanto in Intercultural Communication". Professor Alexander Melnikov of Rostov University will also give several lectures on Esperantology. Prof. Gabor Markus from Hungary will talk about the economic problems of multilingualism. Prof. Orlando Raola from the US will give an introduction to environmental chemistry issues. Prof. Amri Wandel of the University of Jerusalem will review the issues of modern astronomy.
The event is organized by the Lithuanian Association of Esperanto and Panevėžys Esperanto Club "Revo", sponsored by European Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis andPanevėžys City Municipality.
