The intentions to be partners in a joint project the aim of which could be common strategies for the improvement of business environment were discussed. The project application will be provided to Lithuanian-Latvian Cross Border Cooperation Programme for 2007-2013.

According to the Deputy Mayor Gema Umbrasienė Panevėžys and Rezekne have ambitious goals to become the most attractive cities for business and investment. This unites the cities and provides the possibility for the businessmen and business support institutions of both cities to cooperate in creating working places. Despite the fact that the territory of Rezekne Special Economic Zone is about 1 000 ha and Panevėžys  has only 65 ha, many common points and  aspirations were found.
