Opening of Lithuanian Capital of Culture on 31 January

"In winter, when everybody is so tired of darkness and cold, an evening full of light, good emotions, play and nostalgia will be proposed. We shall declare the start of the project where much efforts and contribution had given cultural, educational and other institutions,"- says Loreta Krasauskienė, the Head of Culture and Art Department, Panevėžys City Muncipality.
For the first time in the history the city will set an eye on 3D installations. It is a special project when the building of a famous Juozas Miltinis Drama Theatre will rebirth. A mini performance of several minutes will remind of those gathered the history of the city- since its foundation in 1503 till nowadays, the course to modernisation. We shall see the individuals who made the city famous, the most important symbols of it. Attributes of the world countries presented during the year of Lithuanian Capital of Culture will also be shown.
15 art installations from geometric figures to spacial projections will lighten and decorate Laisvės Square. Spectators will see futuristic views of Panevėžys, illluminated thread bridges. A stylized sun will symbolise the union of nations cultures under it. There will be a room of light-cube where fortune resides in things. The figure of origami will symbolise the harmony of nature and the world. Installations were created by Andrius Kuprys(Panevėžys), Jurga Marciliauskaitė, Miglė Zdanevičiūtė and Kamilė Česnavičiūtė(Vilnius), Dominykas Būta, Martynas Germanavičius, Baltramiejus Skridaila, Augustas Maniušis(Vilnius School of Valdorf), artists from Panevėžys city.
Kaunas Theatre of Pantomime will be involved into the opening of Lithuanian Capital of Culture. The inhabitants and the guests of Panevėžys will see an impressive show when paintings become alive in a soft way and mimes reflect alive sculptures. The exceptional features of the programme are effective visual solutions, the plastic, movement, theatre costumes, make-up and music. Besides, mimes will illustrate all months of Culture Capital in their own way.
Wind Orchestra "Panevėžio Garsas" has prepared one more surprise for the spectators. For the first time not only in Panevėžys but also in Lithuania, an interactive game will be organised. From 05.00 P. M. everyone will have a possibility to test oneself as a conductor. There will be projector by the City Hall and everyone wishing will have the chance to feel oneself a member of the orchestra, conduct a chosen piece of music and force the orchestra obey when standing on a special stage for a conductor.
The opening of Culture Capital will be crowned by impressive and professional music fireworks. The Shopping and Entertainment Centre "Babilonas I" donates it to the city.
So, nobody will be bored willing to sit at home or wishing to experience new impressions on the last day in January.

It is expected that the opening of Culture Capital will be visited by Dalia Grybauskaitė, the President of Lithuania, Šarūnas Birutis, Minister of Culture, the representatives of ministries, embassies, other honourable guests.
