Panevėžys joins the Initiative RIVER CLEANUP

                          2020.05.28

On June 6, in commemorating the World Environment Day, the international River and water cleaning initiative RIVER CLEANUP will take place in Lithuania for the second time. With the aim to prevent the entry of waste into the seas and oceans Panevėžys City supports and joins the initiative by inviting communities, non-governmental organizations, individuals to collect garbage from the Nevėžis River and Žagienis Rivulet.

In 2017, Panevėžys City Council approved the Baltic Sea Action Plan or the Blue Strategy. Panevėžys takes responsibility for sustainable development and cares about clean environment for future generations. One of the strategic goals is to improve the quality of the environment, to maintain clean waters of rivers.

Born in Belgium, the River Cleanup initiative is becoming more and more popular not just in Europe but around the world. This year five continents have pulled the efforts in 100 cleaning points. The aim of this initiative is not only to raise people's awareness on water pollution, but also to invite them to be part of the solution.
